Principal's Message

We, at Govt. Zirtiri Residential Science College, are committed to our motto “Lighted to Lighten”. It gives me great happiness to announce that Govt. Zirtiri Residential Science College is now equipped with its own website. I do hope it provides both the faculty and the students of this College with a platform for exchange of ideas and information . It is also intended to benefit all others who visit it to learn more about our College, in whatever capacity it may be, I also, take the opportunity to thank the University Grants Commission (UGC) for making this achievement possible. REPORT FROM NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME (NSS) 2008 - 2009

                                                                                            

The Govt.ZirtiriResidentialScienceCollege was established by the Govt. of Mizoram as the only ScienceCollege in Mizoram to quench the thirst for Science Education. The existing Home Science Department of Zirtiri Women’s College was amalgamated with the Science faculties from other Government Colleges of the state min 2000.  It became a co-educational institute and has occupied the status of being the only science college of the State and the only College in the State to offer the study of Home Science.

Situated at a location which is far from the din and noise of the city, the College provides a tranquil atmosphere which is so essential for quality education.  The College is staffed with highly qualified and experienced Lecturers who are committed to the development and enlightening of their students under the motto ‘Lighted to Lighten’.

With regard to the NSS scenario in Mizoram, this unit is the seventh in seniority and has been allotted six units of volunteers for the session 2008. Almost all the volunteers are actively involved in creating assets for the community as well as in generating health and environment protection issues. Some of the most important activities undertaken by this NSS unit during 2008 may be summarized as follows:

REGULAR ACTIVITIES :

January 2008 :           Career guidance was organized for the students of Mont fort High School, Ramhlun North on 25th January 2008 at MontFortHigh School, Ramhlun North Aizawl. Mr Zirlianngura PO NSS delivered lecture on Career guidance. Literatures related to this topic were distributed to the participants.

             

                                    Workshop on Leadership and Personality Development for NSS volunteers was organised by NSS Regional Office Guwahati in collaboration with NSS (Cell) Mizoram during 24th to 25th January at DIET Auditorium Chaltlang. MrZirliannguraPONSSGovt.ZirtiriResidentialScienceCollege proposed Vote of thanks at the Valedictory function.

February 2008 :         S.Kula Women College, Nambol Manipur  organized National Integration Camp (NIC) during 31st January to 6th February 2008 . The following NSS volunteers from our Unit participated in the National Integration Camp. Namely,

March 2008:              Mr Zirlianngura PO NSS participated “Workshop on Training need Assessment” at Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development (RGNIYD), Sriperambudur, Tamil Nadu during 7th to 8th March .

Miss R.Lalramengzami PO attended NSS Orientation Course at Nadrendrapur, Kolkata from 10th – 19th of this month.

May 2008:                  On 13th May, Orientation Course for NSS Volunteers was organized at College Hall in which about 180 volunteers actively participated. Mr Darchuailova Renthlei SLO graced the function as the Resource Person.

June 2008:                  Green Mizoram Day was observed on 13th June at Sihhmui NSS Plantation. The programme includes clearing and cleaning of the plantation area. Some damaged plants were replaced with new saplings.

                                    Laldinpuii NSS Volunteer participated successfully ‘Pilot testing of Training Manual on Tribal Youth as Social animators’ during 24th to 28th June at Shillong. This programme was jointly organized by Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development(RGNYID), Sriperambudur and NSS Regional Office, Guwahati.

July 2008:                   On 11th July, Social Work was organised at College Campus. NSS volunteers cleaned the class rooms, practical rooms, office and corridors thoroughly. A fact worthy of mention is that not just the NSS volunteers but all the teaching and non-teaching staff of this college also participated in this cleanliness drive actively.

                                    On 26th July, Awareness Campaign on Voluntary Blood Donation was organized in collaboration with MSACS. Miss Lalmuanpuii from MSACS gave a talk on ‘Importance of Voluntary Blood Donation and its speech was effective and very lively.

August 2008:              On 25th August, Our NSS Units visited the Baby Home called ‘Hmangaihte Run’ at Zemabawk. This Home is run by MHIP Hqrs. We had an informal meeting with the boarders, which was followed by a photo session. The NSS volunteers helped clean the campus of this Home, as well as its surroundings. Food items and clothes were donated by the Volunteers to the inmates of this Home.

            

September 2008:        Miss R.Lalramengzami PO NSS participated “Workshop on Training of trainers on Social Harmony for the North Easten States” at Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development (RGNIYD), Sriperambudur Tamil Nadu during 18th to 21st September.

                                    Mr Lalrinmawia PO and Miss Zarzokimi PO attended NSS Orientation Course at Nadrendrapur, Kolkata from 15th – 24th of this month.

                                    On 24th September, as part of celebration of 39th NSS foundation Day, Voluntary Blood Donation Camp was organized at the College in which 75 units of blood were donated for the CivilHospital, Aizawl Mizoram

 

October 2008:            Career Counseling was organized at College Hall in collaboration with Army Recruiting Office, Zemabawk   Col. R.Askok Venkataraman, Director, Army Recruiting Office, Zemabawk was the resource person. He gave lecture on “How to join Indian Army as an Officer”. His lecture was very interesting and informative as he had shown every point with the related document. Literatures related to this topic were distributed to the participants.

 

Mr Zirlianngura PO NSS participated Seminar on “Human right and Social Harmony” during 25th to 26th October at Tourist Lodge Chaltlang. This Seminar was jointly organised by Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development (RGNIYD), Sriperambudur Tamil Nadu and NSS Regional Office, Guwahati.

November 2008:        Lallawmawma NSS Volunteer participated ‘State Level Poster Design Competition’ at Hrangbana College on 21st November. He got second prize in this competition.

SPECIAL CAMPING:

 

October 2008:         Under Unit I and II, Special Camping were organised at Kanan Vengchhak and Vengthlang West Phaileng  during 21st – 30th of the month. The main activities undertaken were:

                 a). Construction of Waiting Shed at Kanan Vengchhak.

b). Visiting of Middle School and High School to give lecture on Career   guidance, and also to distribute pamphlets related to this topic to the students.

                 c). Cleanliness Drive at the roadside of the village.

                

November 2008 :    Under Unit III and IV , Special Camping were organised at Phuldungsei Veng Chhak and Vengthar during 4th  – 13th of the month. The main activities undertaken were:

                  a). Construction of Public Urinal Phuldungsei Vengthar.

                  b). Awareness campaign on HIV/AIDS. Distribution of pamphlets related to this topic.

December 2008 :    Under V , Special Camping was organised at Chanmari West during 11th  – 20th of the month. The main activities undertaken were:

                  a). Construction of Public Urinal.

                  b). Awareness campaign on Voluntary Blood donation and Cleanliness. Distribution of pamphlets related to this topic.

  c). Visiting of Middle School and High School and given lecture on Career   guidance, and distribution of pamphlets related to this topic to the students.

Goals & Objectives

The principle goal is to cater to the need for higher learning in the college level in various fields of science education in Mizoram. It is envisaged that the knowledge and skills gained from the institution, with the degree obtained, would facilitate students for future employment opportunities. The main objectives of the college are:

  1. To be at par with esteemed colleges outside the state in terms of teaching-learning process and, also in terms of research output.
  2. To continuously strive to provide a platform for more choices and opportunities, particularly for students who cannot afford to pursue higher studies elsewhere.
