REPORT FROM NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME (NSS) 2007 - 2008

It is indeed a great privilege for me to give a brief report on the activities of NSS Unit, Govt. Zirtiri Residential Science during the academic session 2007-2008.

With regard to the NSS scenario in Mizoram, this unit is the seventh in seniority and has been allotted six units of volunteers for the session 2007-2008. Almost all the volunteers are actively involved in creating assets for the community as well as in generating health and environment protection issues. Some of the most important activities undertaken by this NSS unit may be summarized as follows:

REGULAR ACTIVITIES :

May 2007:      On 25^th May, Social Work was organised at College Campus. NSS volunteers cleaned the class rooms, practical rooms, office and corridors thoroughly. A fact worthy of mention is that not just the NSS volunteers but all the teaching and non-teaching staff of this college also participated in this cleanliness drive actively.

June 2007:      Green Mizoram Day was observed on 9^th June at Sihhmui NSS Plantation. The programme includes clearing and cleaning of the plantation area. Some damaged plants were replaced with new saplings. Some of our activities are shown in the pictures below:

                        On 14^th June, Our NSS Volunteers, Natalia Rosangliani, Lalhmangaihi and Rosangpuia Pachuau participated Quiz Competition on Blood Donation and Current events which was organized by MSACS at I & PR Auditorium and they got consolation prize.

July 2007:       An Eye Clinic was organized at our College in collaboration with Department of  Ophthalmic, RIPANS during 3^rd to 5^th August. Most of the NSS volunteers, teachers and office staffs got their eye checked up free of cost and some students were referred to RIPANS for further examination. The doctors on duty were:

1. Dr Enghmingliani  Senior Eye Specialist.
2. Dr Lalrinzuali  Eye Specialist.
3. Dr Lalduhawmi Rokhum.

Mr Darchuailova Renthlei, State Liaison Officer cum Deputy Secretary (NSS) also participated in this Eye Clinic and got his eye thoroughly checked up.

                     As referred by doctors mentioned above, on 13^th August, fifteen NSS volunteers were taken into Department of Ophthalmic, RIPANS and got their eyes checked up again with better instruments.

     

August 2007               On 30^th August, HIV/AIDS awareness campaign was organized in collaboration with World Vision (CARE) at our college. A person living with HIV gave a talk on HIV/AIDS and its speech was effective and very lively.

September 2007:      On 24^th September, as part of celebration of 38^th NSS foundation Day, Voluntary Blood Donation Camp was organized at the College in which 53 units of blood were donated for the Civil Hospital, Aizawl Mizoram.

 

October 2007:   On 2^nd October, Cleanliness Week was observed by weeding and cleaning of NSS plantation site at Sihhmui with active participation of three PO’s and 30 volunteers.

November 2007: On 16^th November, Zirlianngura Programme Officer attended NSS Officers’ Meeting at SLO office to discuss about State Level NSS Camping 2007.

December 2007 : Zirlianngura and two NSS volunteers namely, Rosy Lallawmzuali FanaiII BSc and Elizabeth Laldinpuii successfully participated State Level NSS Integration Camp at Pachhunga University College during 11^th to 14^th December. 

January 2008 :   Career guidance was organized for the students of Mont fort High School, Ramhlun North on 25^th January 2008 at MontFortHigh School, Ramhlun North Aizawl.This programme was chaired by Miss R.Lalramengzami PO NSS Unit, Govt.ZirtiriResidentialScienceCollege and Mr Zirlianngura PO NSS delivered lecture on Career guidance. Literatures related to this topic were distributed to the participants.

                        Workshop on Leadership and Personality Development for NSS volunteers was organised by NSS Regional Office Gwauhati in collaboration with NSS (Cell) Mizoram during 24^th to 25^th January 2008 at DIET Auditorium Chaltlang. MrZirliannguraProgrammeOfficerNSSGovt.ZirtiriResidentialScienceCollege proposed Vote of thanks at the Valedictory function.

February 2008 :  S.Kula Women College, Nambol Manipur  organized National Integration Camp (NIC) during 31^st January to 6^th February 2008 . The following NSS volunteers from our Unit participated in the National Integration Camp. Namely,          

1. Ramnungsanga  I BCA                               2. Michael Lalruatsanga I BCA         

            3. Reuben Lallawmzuala I BCA                     4. F.Vanlalnghaka  I BCA

                 

March 2008:           Mr Zirlianngura PO NSS participated “Workshop on Training need Assessment” which was organised by Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development (RGNIYD), Sriperambudur Tamil Nadu during 7^th to 8^th March 2008.

SPECIAL CAMPING:

 

November 2007:     Under Unit I and II, Special Camping were organised at Lamherh Hmar Veng  and Lamherh Chhim Veng  during 21^st – 30^th of the month. The main activities undertaken were:

                 a). Construction of Water Shed at Lamherh Hmar Veng.

b). Visiting of Middle School and High School and given lecture on Career   guidance, and pamphlets related to this topic were given to the students.

                 c). Awareness campaign on Cleanliness.

                

                 Under Unit III and IV , Special Camping were organised at Khawlek Veng Chhak and Khawlek Vengthlang  during 21^st  – 30^th of the month. The main activities undertaken were:

                  a). Construction of Public Urinal Khawlek Veng Chhak.

                  b). Awareness campaign on HIV/AIDS. Distribution of pamphlets related to this topic.

                  c). Awareness campaign on Voluntary Blood Donation. Distribution of literatures related to this topic.   

           

January 2008:        Under V, Special Camping were organised at Durtlang North during 7^th –16^th of the month. The main activities undertaken were:

                 a). Construction of public Urinal.

b)  Visiting of Middle School and High School and given lecture on Career      guidance, and pamphlets related to this topic were given to the students.

                 c). Awareness campaign on Cleanliness.

           

      In conclusion, I would like to thank our respected Principal F.J Ralzuala for his valuable support and guidance without which many of our activities would not have been achieved.
