Principal's Message

We, at Govt. Zirtiri Residential Science College, are committed to our motto “Lighted to Lighten”. It gives me great happiness to announce that Govt. Zirtiri Residential Science College is now equipped with its own website. I do hope it provides both the faculty and the students of this College with a platform for exchange of ideas and information . It is also intended to benefit all others who visit it to learn more about our College, in whatever capacity it may be, I also, take the opportunity to thank the University Grants Commission (UGC) for making this achievement possible. REPORT FROM NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME (NSS).

It is indeed a great privilege for me to give a brief report on the activities of NSS Unit, Govt. Zirtiri Residential Science during the academic session 2013-2014

With regard to the NSS scenario in Mizoram, this unit is the seventh in seniority and has been allotted six units of volunteers for the session 2013-2014. Almost all the volunteers are actively involved in creating assets for the community as well as in generating health and environment protection issues. Some of the most important activities undertaken by this NSS unit may be summarized as follows:

                                                                                            

REGULAR ACTIVITIES :

April  2013:     On 5th of this month, Voluntary Blood Donation Camp was organized at the College Hall. Medical team consisting of one doctor and five other supporting staffs from Durtlang Hospital, Aizawl Mizoram had arrived our College at 9:30 AM. After having done all the necessary arrangements, the voluntary blood donation was started from 10:00 AM in full swing. The doctor on duty carefully examined all the NSS volunteers before they donated blood and only those volunteers who were found eligible were allowed to donate blood. A large number of volunteers who were willing to donate blood were found ineligible.

 Local Cable Operators had come to cover the programme and this programme was shown on the very night in their local channel. Most of the Local Newspapers highlighted this programme on the next day. A total of 93 units of blood were donated on this day.

On this same day, an eye camp was organized for the NSS volunteers at the College itself.  A team of Medical headed by Dr Lalrindiki Eye Specialist, Durtlang Presbyterian Hospital thoroughly checked up the eyes of the students and teachers. Around 125 persons got their eyes checked up. Some volunteers and teachers were referred to Durtlang Presbyterian Hospital for further necessary check up.

May 2013:       Public Urinal which was constructed in 2018 at Capital Complex, Khatla needed minor repair. It was renovated with active participation 25 NSS volunteers. The renovation work included painting and repairing of the front wall.

June  2013:     On 5th of this month, Social Work was organized at College Premises. On this day, NSS volunteers cleaned the class rooms, practical rooms, office and corridors thoroughly. A fact worthy of mention is that not just the NSS volunteers but all the teaching and non-teaching staff of this college also participated in this cleanliness drive actively.

                         Green Mizoram Day was observed on 11th  June 2013 at ICFAI University Campus Durtlang. Inauguration programme was done at the ICFAI Auditorium at 7:30AM in which Hon’ble Minister Mr Lalzirliana was invited to be the Chief Guest. He talked on the importance of planting more tree and also conservation of the forests. The main theme of Green Mizoram - 2013 was ‘Plan trees and conserve life’.Our NSS units planted around 30 saplings in the ICFAI Campus which was allotted for us. Heavy refreshment was served to all the NSS volunteers and programme officers.

July 2013:        Orientation Course for NSS Volunteers was organized at College Hall on 12th July 2013 in which Mr Zilianngura PO NSS had a talk on ‘History, Aims and Objective of NSS’. This Orientation Programme was organized to make the first years’ students aware NSS history, aims and objectives.  As many of Higher Secondary Schools in Mizoram do not introduce NSS Unit in their schools. Our NSS Unit feels very important to conduct Orientation Programme especially for the first years’ students and hence this kind of proramme is being organized every year. Volunteers’ hand books were also distributed to the participants.

August 2013: On2nd of this month, Class to class motivation campaign for Voluntary Blood Donation was organized on the date mentioned above. Mr Zilianngura PO, Mr Lawrence Zonunmawia PO and Ms Zarzokimi PO talked about the importance of voluntary blood donation and earnestly requested all the students to donate their blood voluntary in the coming Voluntary Blood donation camp which is scheduled to be organized in the month of September 2013.

    

September 2013: The44th NSS Foundation Day was jointly observed on 24th Sept 2013 by all NSS Units of Aizawl city at Chanmari YMA Hall. Mr Lalzirmawia Chhangte Director Sport and Youth Services graced the function as the Chief Guest. Dr  Lalzuiliana SLO gave welcome speech. Around 600 NSS Volunteers and 50 Programme Officers from different NSS Units actively participated in this auspicious function. Proff P.Rinawma Programme Coordinator NSS Cell Mizoram University proposed Vote of thanks. The detailed programme was highlighted in Local Cables in the same day and Newspapers in the next day. Heavy refreshment was served to all the NSS Volunteers.                  

October 2013:               Cleanliness Week was observed at College Campus 9th October 2013. On this day, NSS volunteers cleaned the class rooms, practical rooms, office and corridors thoroughly. A fact worthy of mention is that not just the NSS volunteers but all the teaching and non-teaching staff of this college also participated in this cleanliness drive actively.

           

December 2013:          On 10th of this month, ten NSS girls’ volunteers of this unit attended Self Defence Training at Sport Contact Centre, Mission Vengthlang. This Programme was organized by State Liaison Office NSS Cell Mizoram at Contact Sports Training Centre, Mission Vengthlang Aizawl. This particular programme was organized for NSS girl’s volunteers for effectively deal with the problem of Crime against Women. Mr Mangthangvunga Black Belt in Karate taught the volunteers presented at the Training how do defend themselves when other persons try to attack or rape them.

           

January 2014:                         23rd of this month, Voluntary Blood Donation Camp was organized at the College in which 76 units of blood were donated for the Presbyterian Hospital, Durtlang Mizoram.        Local Cable Operators had come to cover the programme and this programme was shown on the very night in their local channel. February 2014:           Sixteen NSS volunteers and three Programme Officers of our NSS Unit had successfully participated NSS Youth Festival at Multipurpose Hall MZU Tanhril during 4th to 7th April 2014. This festival was inaugurated by Hon’ble Minister Mr Zodintluanga in the forenoon of 4th February 2014 at Multipurpose Hall, Mizoram University Tanhril.

During this festival, imminent scholars were invited to give lecture on the burning topics like Disaster Management, Voluntary Blood Donation, Human Trafficking in NE India, Crime Against Women. The awareness of these topics was spread among the participants.

One day Sight Seeing programme was also organized at Hmuifang Tourist Centre and Falkawn Mizo Village on 5th February 2014 successfully.

All the North East States except Arunachal Pradesh sent their delegates and altogether around 270 NSS volunteers participated successfully in this programme.

This festival was concluded in the afternoon of 6th February 2014 and Mr R.Romawia Minister Higher & Technical Education closed the progamme . A very colourfull and enlightening cultural programme was organized on the evening of 6th February 2014 at University Campus.

Ms Mimi Lalmuanawmi PO NSS had successfully attended Orientation Course for NSS Programme Officers at Narendrapur Kolkota during 16th to 22nd February 2014.  As many as 43 Programme officers from Bihar, Jharkhand, Arunachal Pradesh West Bengal and Mizoram actively participated at this programme. Different resource persons from Ram Krishna Mission Narendrapur and nearby Institutions gave lectures on various topics like financial patterns in NSS, aim and objective of NSS, organizing special camping at adopted villages, youth profile in India etc.

March 2014: Seminar on Disaster Management for NSS Volunteers was organized on 14th March 2014 at College Auditorium. Mr Zirlianngura PO NSS chaired the programme. Mr Zoramthara PO NSS of this college gave lecture on how to prepare ourselves when the natural disaster like earthquakes, landslides comes in our locality/town. In his lecture, he mentioned that Mizoram is one of the earthquake prone areas in the country. Earthquake may hit our town any time. As nobody could predict the time of it, so we all have to ready to face any time.

SPECIAL CAMPING:

December 2013:      Special Camping for Units I and II were organized at Thingsulthliah during 7th  to 13th of the month. The main activities undertaken were:

                 a). Construction of Waiting Shed.

b). Visiting of Middle School and High School to give lecture on Career   guidance, and also to distribute pamphlets related to this topic to the students.

                 c). Cleanliness Drive at the roadside of the village.

                

December 2013:      Special Camping NSS Units III and IV were organized at Tlangnuam during 7th  to 13th  of the month. The main activities undertaken were:

            a). Construction of Public Urinal

            b). Awareness campaign on HIV/AIDS. Distribution of pamphlets related to this topic.

            c). Visiting of Middle School and High School and given lecture on Career   guidance, and distribution of pamphlets related to this topic to the students.

            In conclusion, I would like to thank to our respected Principal Mr JH Zoremthanga for his valuable support and guidance without which many of our activities would not have been achieved. I would also like to thank to all my colleagues and NSS volunteers for their support and cooperation.

Goals & Objectives

The principle goal is to cater to the need for higher learning in the college level in various fields of science education in Mizoram. It is envisaged that the knowledge and skills gained from the institution, with the degree obtained, would facilitate students for future employment opportunities. The main objectives of the college are:

  1. To be at par with esteemed colleges outside the state in terms of teaching-learning process and, also in terms of research output.
  2. To continuously strive to provide a platform for more choices and opportunities, particularly for students who cannot afford to pursue higher studies elsewhere.
