THE ACTIVITIES OF CARREER COUNSELING AND PLACEMENT CELL FOR THE ACADEMIC SESSION (2013-2014)

      

          During the academic session 2013-2014 the cell organised the following programmes to further the career opportunities of the students.

1.   PERSONALITY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME : During 15-26th April 2013 a personality development programme was organised for the final year students. This programme was organised to equip our outgoing students with necessary knowledge and skills ,not only in academics, but also in job hunting and establishing careers. Two cells under the UGC merged schemes , i.e career counseling cell and coaching for entry into services jointly organised this programme.

        This programme met with an astounding response from the outgoing students. About 114 students registered for this two-weeks long programme. The programme consisted of a condense course on life values such as-IT for everyday life, Basic computer application, interview skills, communication skills, common errors in English, Psychological development, Basic first Aid skills, travelling& studying aboard, traditional values, manners & Etiquette, Time Management, personal grooming, career councelling for all streams.

       Resource persons were engaged from the teaching faculty of the college as well as renowned experts from outside. The college also collaborated with the faculty of RIPANS for training on the basics of first Aid skills.

       A feedback/evaluation mechanism showed that the programme was well received. More than 90% of the topics were found to be extremely relevant. It is envisaged that the course will provide the participants with the necessary facilities and tools to face challenges that pertain to the lifestyles and scenario faced by young adults in today’s world.

2.   TRANING FOR COURSE ON COMPUTER CONCEPT (CCC) : The course on Basic computer skills provided to the science and Home science students during the Personality Development was further intensified with a week – long training during 29th april-3rd May.2013. The course intended to give the outgoing students, from science and Home science stream, basic knowledge in computer application. Further , the end of the course the students sat for the CCC examination under NIELIT. This gave them additional degrees besides their normal graduate certificate. About 40 students registered for this course and qualified the CCC examinations.

3.  CAREER COUNSELING ON ENTRY INTO INDIAN ARMY AND INDIAN AIR FORCE : On 21st June 2013 two mizo brothers, Captain Laldinpuia and Flight lieutenant Lalrinsanga were invited to give talks on career opportunities in the Indian Army and in the Indian Air Force. The lectures were followed by a lively interaction between students and the resource persons. Students from the science stream and the computer science stream attended the programme.

4.     CAREER COUNCELING ON HOUSE PLANNING AND INTERIOR DESIGNS : The Home science students were given a one day training programme on house planning and interior design on 18.July.2013. An Architect Samuel Lalfana and his team of interior designers gave a lecture to the students on job opportunities in interior designing and also on the techniques of house planning.

5.     ONE DAY TRAINING ON CYBER CRIME AND CYBER SECURITY : A collaborative effort between the cell, State legal authority and Legal Aid Clinic, Mizoram Law college resulted in the organisation of a one day awareness programme for the Computer Science students on the much needed topic of Cyber crime on 11.9.2013. Most of our computer students who find placement with private firms find this awareness extremely revelant. The resource person were Miss Vanlalhruaii, Asst Professor, Mizoram Law college and Mr. T.Tlaisun, an advocate at the District court.

         In the afternoon resource persons from NIELIT came to give a talk on cyber security and job opportunities for computer science students.

6.     ONE DAY AWARENESS PROGRAMME ON DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND RIGHTS OF WOMEN : Women empowerment, being a burning issue for all times, became a theme for the one day awareness programme orgaised in collaborative with State legal authority and Legal Aid cell, Mizoram Law college on 11.9.2013. Our home science students were give awareness on women empowerment, Rights of women, and protection of women against domestic violence. The resource person was Mrs Zoparliani, Asst. Professor Mizoram Law college. The students and the faculty members greatly benefitted from the lecture and the interactive session that followed.
